In this conversation, Ruth Meirick, Minnesota Foundation for Agriculture, shares her journey in agriculture, highlighting her early influences from 4-H and FFA, and the importance of community and relationships in building a successful career. Her Mom remains an important role model. “My father passed away when I was 10 years old and so my Mom ran the farm,” said Meirick. “We had to work really, really hard in the absence of a father on the farm. My Mom made those decisions and while there might not have been some opportunities, that certainly didn’t hold us back from doing things that we did.” In the interview, Meirick discusses the Foundation’s innovative health programs to improve rural healthcare and emphasizes the need for mental health awareness in the agricultural community.
