South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden vetoed legislation that would have classified cell-cultivated proteins as ‘adulterated food.’ The South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association is praising the governor’s decision, describing the bill as ‘government overreach.’ The cattlemen’s group said the ‘fake meat’ products are not competition for real beef and consumers don’t need the government to tell them that.
