The Swine Health Information Center 2025 Progress Report highlights a record year for its research investment. “We had $2.5 million allocated from the Pork Checkoff, we utilized that with matching funds for 2025, essentially funding 32 different research projects,” says SHIC Associate Director Dr. Lisa Becton. H5N1 research was a highlight. “There’s a lot of focus and work in dairy and in poultry,” said Becton. “However, not a lot of work had been completed in swine.” SHIC funded ten projects this past year dealing with the virus “encompassing things such as what the infection looked like across multiple ages of pigs ranging from baby pigs all the way up to sows.”
