Basis levels in the Northern Plains could feel some stress once the colder weather breaks. “Once we start seeing better temperatures, there’s probably going to be quite a bit of grain moving to town as farmers try to get more moved,” says AgMarket dot Net Market Analyst Tyler Schau, who spoke at the KMOT Ag Expo in Minot, ND. “I’ve been trying to talk to our producers. Go ahead, if you know you’ve got grains, and need to get it moved. The spot bid in most locations is pretty bad, but if you look out a month or two, there’s some strength and there’s some carry. So, if you know you have to move it, talk to your merchandiser, maybe get something on the books for another 30, or 60 days out.”
