NDSU Extension Plant Pathologist Sam Markell was part of a panel discussion at the Advanced Crop Advisors Workshop focused on making every input count. As a pathologist, Markell cited the new disease risk prediction models that can be used to assist in the decision-making process. “There’s a whole bunch that have been launched on NDAWN in the last six, eight months,” said Markell. “There’s white mold work that’s being done that is fantastic. We’re beta-testing it on dry beans; it hasn’t been validated, but it is going to give us a look because it is based on the pathogen, not the plant.” A soybean cyst nematode loss indicator is also available that can provide information for a farm’s specific field. “We haven’t had these tools before.” The Advanced Crop Advisors Workshop is a joint project of the University of Minnesota Extension and North Dakota State University Extension.
