Trade tensions between the United States and Canada have ramped up with President Trump’s threat to impose 100 percent tariffs on all Canadian imports if Ottawa pursues a free trade agreement with China. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said Canada and China have resolved a trade dispute over Canadian canola and Chinese electric vehicles, but a free trade agreement is not being pursued. Carney sees the Trump tariff threat as a negotiating tool ahead of this year’s review of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement. “It’ll be a robust review, is the expectation,” said Carney. “The President is a strong negotiator, and I view some of these comments and positioning in the broader context of that.”
