The Northarvest Bean Growers Association, the largest group of dry bean growers in the United States, is joining forces with USA Pulses in an effort to grow demand for pulse crops. USA Pulses CEO Tim McGreevy spoke about the new partnership during the International Sugar Beet and Dry Bean Expo in Grand Forks, calling it a major step forward for the industry. “It’s really a real moment for us, working together to really advance the entire pulse industry, peas, lentils, chickpeas, dry beans, and try to increase consumption and production of these really terrific foods.” McGreevy says Northarvest’s size and reach make the partnership especially significant as USA Pulses works toward its goal of doubling domestic pulse consumption by 2030. “They represent 2,800 growers, they represent over 60 percent of the total production in the country of dry beans, and so they are a really big player,” McGreevy said. “This is a unification of the entire pulse industry coming together to achieve a really big goal. We want to double consumption and production of these foods by 2030, and we’re taking a step in that direction by joining with Northarvest to really have a big impact.”
