The updated federal dietary guidelines represent the most significant reset of nutritional standards in history. That was the message from Health and Human Services Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr. at the White House announcement. Kennedy said whole, nutrient-dense foods is the best path to better health. “Protein and healthy fats are essential, and we’re wrongly discouraged in prior dietary guidelines; we are ending the war on saturated fats,” said Kennedy. The report said whole grains outperform refined carbohydrates. The target was put on added sugars, “especially sugar-sweetened beverages, drive metabolic disease, and today our government declares war on added sugar.”
