The USDA reports farmers saw mixed prices in October. The overall index of prices received fell 8.8 percent from September but remains up nearly 7 percent from the same time last year. Crop prices were down 4.9 percent from last month, while livestock prices fell 3 percent. Meanwhile, the prices paid index, which tracks farm input costs, rose 1.1 percent from September and 11 percent from last year, as higher costs for feeder cattle, pigs, and milk cows outweighed lower fuel and feed prices.
