At the Prairie Grains Conference in Grand Forks, James Callan Associates President Jim Callan updated growers on federal policy and potential assistance heading into 2026. Callan noted that while expectations for the bridge assistance payment were high, budget limitations are shaping the programs. “I think a lot of folks would have wanted to see more than $12 billion total, the expectation was something maybe closer to $20 billion.” Callan said there is also potential for additional support. “I know there have been discussions among congressional leaders about doing something more beyond what the administration has done.”
