In addition to the prevented planting, the crop insurance program is seeing other changes. USDA is updating the one-in-four rule for prevented planting so that it doesn’t require the land to be insured, only planted and harvested in at least one out of the past four years. Farmers who change crop insurance companies will also not be required to provide end-of-the-year production data if there was no claim on this past year’s crop. Incentives for beginning farmers were also expanded.
