The first human case of avian influenza in nine months has been diagnosed in the United States. The patient is an older adult with underlying health conditions in Washington State. With the fall season, the number of cases in commercial poultry flocks typically increases. There are currently three flocks in Minnesota, three in South Dakota and one in North Dakota being investigated.
