The Environmental Protection Agency is proposing a new definition of Waters of the United States. EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin said if finalized, this definition would provide clarity to farmers, ranchers and landowners. The definition follows the Supreme Court’s Sackett ruling. The 2023 decision said wetlands are only protected under the Clean Water Act if they have a continuous surface water connection to a ‘water of the United States,’ like a river or lake.
