South Dakota’s corn harvest is approaching the finish line. “Quite a few of our corn farmers are finished up with harvest,” says South Dakota Corn Growers Association Executive Director DaNita Murray. “But the work continues. It doesn’t just end when the last stalk of corn has been pulled out of the field.” Yields have been highly variable due to weather and disease pressure. “Certainly, we’re going to have record-setting yields in parts of South Dakota, but then other parts that perhaps got hit with southern rust at some point later in the summer and it really depended then if they had applied a fungicide.”
