Senate Agriculture Committee Ranking Member Amy Klobuchar spoke at the Farmers For Free Trade event on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday. She highlighted ongoing legal battles over tariffs. “You have a president that’s using it way beyond whatever it was intended to do, and you have a lower trade court that unanimously said that it was wrong, made up of judges appointed by Donald Trump, Barack Obama, and Ronald Reagan. And yes, there are still Reagan judges; they still exist. So those three said no, this is illegal, goes up to the D.C. Court of Appeals. On a 13 to 7 vote, something like that, they say that it is illegal, and now it’s heading to the Supreme Court. So I think it’s going to be one of the most important arguments of the year.” Klobuchar also highlighted the importance of international markets for U.S. agriculture. “What really matters is that we can do business with the rest of the world when 95 percent of our potential customers live outside of our borders.”
