The National FFA Employment Skills competition involves building a resume and applying for an ag-related job. “It’s a project where you start by creating a resume, a cover letter, and a job description, and you send that to a panel of judges,” said Taylor Berkner, who represented Minnesota in the contest. “They score that, and then you have an in-person interview.” For the contest, Berkner applied for a job with local swine farm Schwartz Farms. “I was really drawn to them because they’re local to our community and they give so much back to our community as well.” Berkner, who is from the Sleepy Eye FFA Chapter, plans to attend Iowa State next fall to study Kinesiology.
