Soil salinity is a significant issue across the Northern Plains. Midwestern BioAg CEO Gaji Balakeaneshan sees the management of moisture as the fundamental problem. “For example, if you don’t get any rain for the last couple months of the season, you’re really going to stunt your potassium availability and we can’t control the rain, but we can help the soils manage that moisture better, keep more moisture when it’s dry, help it retain the moisture in a more productive way when it’s wet, and just continue to feed the crop to get to those higher end yields.” The ultimate goal is to improve the availability and management of water and nutrients. Midwestern BioAg is introducing new products that address these issues in the next few months. Balakaneshan says these soil health solutions have a great fit for the Northern Plains.
