Farm program base acres haven’t been updated in many years. South Dakota Congressman Dusty Johnson is sponsoring legislation to correct that. “The farm bill that we passed out of the House Agricultural Committee on a bipartisan basis (in May 2024) did have a voluntary base acre update, but if we’re really going to make good decisions, we need good data. That’s one of the reasons why a mandatory base acre update makes so much sense.”
