The North Dakota soybean harvest is getting underway, and farmers are being urged to stay in close contact with their local elevators. North Dakota Grain Dealers Association Executive Vice President Stu Letcher said communication will be key. “We’ve heard a lot of erroneous reports that elevators aren’t taking soybeans, and that’s not necessarily the case,” Letcher explained. “Most elevators are going to have some programs in place to take beans at harvest.” Storage concerns are also adding to the challenges this fall. Letcher says some farmers may need to look at alternatives. “You might want to check the elevator to make sure they can take them, and if not, there is the program the governor announced through the Bank of North Dakota, where they can get temporary storage loans.”
