According to Kristi Van Ahn of Van Ahn and Company, the year-end scenario becomes the lesser of two evils. “Do you want to eat a bad basis, have a home for it, be able to keep moving along during harvest, and be able to get some cash flow going, or do you want to and have to deal with putting something on the ground?” asked Van Ahn. “One thing a producer really needs to think about is the cost involved in that. We’re not just talking about some spoilage, some issues, right? You’re talking about having to bring that corn back to your farm, put it on the ground, and then come back, pick it up, and bring it back to the elevator. Those are the costs that you need to really consider in that situation.” Van Ahn sees no quick resolution to the weak cash market. Van Ahn was part of the Wednesday Market Outlook panel at the Big Iron Farm Show. Click here to watch the program.
