North Dakota Governor Kelly Armstrong has requested a presidential major disaster declaration for severe storms that hit the state August 7th and 8th. The system produced tornadoes, large hail, and winds up to 100 miles per hour, leaving more than 16,000 residents without power and causing nearly $6 million in electrical infrastructure damage. The request covers seven counties in eastern and south-central North Dakota. If granted, FEMA funding would help with recovery costs, including repairs to power lines and other utilities. A separate disaster request for June storms, which caused more than $11 million in damage and resulted in four deaths, is still pending.
