Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney plans to take a personal role in trade negotiations with China. China imposed a preliminary tariff of nearly 76 percent on Canadian canola seed last month. China claims Canada dumped canola in the Chinese market below its actual costs, which hurt its domestic canola oil market. However, the Canadian government believes this is retaliation for Canada’s 100 percent tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles.
