The European Union has long had a large agricultural trade surplus with the United States. The new framework agreement between the two trading partners is expected to change that. Ag groups are encouraged by the new framework agreement, but there is a sense of caution. National Pork Producers Council President Duane Stateler is pleased tariff and non-tariff trade barriers for pork will be addressed, but wants to see more done to address market access issues. National Milk Producers Federation President and CEO Gregg Doud said this deal could unlock billions of dollars in new opportunities for American dairy farmers, but they want to make sure the EU follows through with the increase in market access.
