An industry leader in the North Dakota cattle industry has passed. Jason Schmidt, 54, ranched at Crystal Springs. Schmidt was a member of the Cattlemen’s Beef Board, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association Region 7 past vice president, North Dakota Stockmen’s Association past president, North Dakota Beef Commission past chairman and newly elected to the North Dakota State Board of Agricultural Research and Education. North Dakota Beef Commission Chairman Jason Zahn served with Schmidt on the NDSA board for 15 years. “The one thing that sticks out about Jason is he would drop everything if something were happening in the beef industry when we needed some support, whether it was testifying at the Capitol or sitting down and doing an interview,” said Zahn. “He was always there to better the beef industry in North Dakota, just a big hole that the beef industry is going to have to fill.”
