President Donald Trump urged China on Sunday to quadruple its soybean purchases from the U.S. ahead of a key tariff truce deadline, pushing soybean prices higher. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said China feared a soybean shortage and hoped it would quickly increase orders. However, analysts question the feasibility of such a deal. China, the world’s largest soybean buyer, imported roughly 105 million metric tons last year, with only about a quarter coming from the U.S. Quadrupling shipments would require China to source the bulk of its soybeans from America, a move market analysts say is unlikely. The tariff deadline between Washington and Beijing expires tomorrow, August 12.
