President Donald Trump has announced a 90-day pause on any tariff increases for Mexico, holding current rates steady as both countries work toward a new trade agreement. The decision follows what Trump called a “very successful” call with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. Mexico will continue to face a 25 percent tariff on auto imports and a 50 percent tariff on steel, aluminum, and copper. Trump also said Mexico agreed to drop unspecified non-tariff barriers immediately. The delay comes just before Trump’s broader tariff reset takes effect Friday, and signals both the economic importance of Mexico and a developing rapport between the two leaders.
