University of Minnesota Extension Small Grains Specialist Jochum Weirsma says they’re receiving reports that armyworms are impacting fields at an economic level. “Scouts as well as individual growers have found a fair number of armyworms at treatable levels all along the Beach Ridge in the Red River Valley and in west central Minnesota as far south as Benson. They’re starting to see complete defoliation of the crop that’s very close, actually, to physiological maturity.” Weirsma says armyworm management is difficult this close to harvest season.
