Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins has unveiled plans to reorganize the USDA, relocating many of its Washington, D.C. staff to regional hubs across the country. This plan is designed to right-size the USDA workforce, bring USDA closer to its customers, eliminate levels of bureaucracy and consolidate overlapping support roles. USDA now has 4,600 employees in the Washington, D.C. area and with this change, no more than 2,000 employees will remain. The USDA South Building, which is one of the largest office buildings in the DC area, will be turned over to the White House for an unknown use. USDA staff will be relocated to hubs in Raleigh, North Carolina; Kansas City, Missouri; Indianapolis, Indiana; Fort Collins, Colorado; and Salt Lake City, Utah.
