A new memorandum of understanding between the United States and Bangladesh may boost wheat exports to one of the world’s largest import markets. U.S. Wheat Associates Vice President of Overseas Operations Brian Liedl says Bangladesh imports around eight million metric tons of wheat each year, but the U.S. has only captured a small slice of that market in recent years. “Hopefully with this new MOU, we’re able to gain better access to that market and a growing source of exports for U.S. farmers.” Liedl says the deal arrives during a time of uncertainty in global trade and reinforces the value of high-quality U.S. wheat abroad. “A lot of these countries are coming to realize that U.S. wheat is an excellent, exportable product.” U.S. Wheat recently finalized a similar trade agreement with flour millers in Indonesia.
