Custom harvester Jeremy Haven says the winter wheat crop has been better than expected in the Pierre area, despite concerns from earlier in the season. “Last spring, everybody was a little concerned about that cold weather that moved in. We could have done a little more damage than everybody anticipated,” said Haven. “Some low test weights, but then we’ve also been cutting some pretty good wheat with some 60-pound test weights. Proteins have been all over the board, low tens to high 13s.” The wheat harvest still has a long way to go. “You see some combines rolling, but there’s a lot of wheat to be cut yet.”
