Strathcona farmer Jim Kukowski was part of a Minnesota Soybean Growers Association delegation in Washington, D.C., to advocate for action on the long-delayed farm bill. Kukowski, who serves on both the MSGA and the American Soybean Association boards, said the budget bill had some wins for agriculture, but the full farm bill is still needed to address issues like conservation and long-term program funding. Kukowski pointed to falling soybean prices and rising input costs as major concerns for farmers. “That’s one of the big things,” said Kukowski. “In previous years, the market would go down, the crop inputs would go down, and now it seems like they’re (crop input costs) going up and never coming down.”
