Due to high-volume rains, standing water has been seen in the region. “Overall, the corn crop is looking pretty good, but we have these areas that received quite a bit of rainfall around Renville, Willmar, and Fargo,” says University of Minnesota Extension Agronomist Jeff Coulter. “We’re seeing variable conditions, uneven fields, and nitrogen deficiencies showing up.” Unlike last year, there is very little drought stress in Minnesota. Portions of northwest and north-central Minnesota are the exceptions. “We’re going into the critical period for corn growth with pretty good moisture levels throughout the area.”
