A study conducted by North Dakota State University found the complete elimination of High Fructose Corn Syrup would reduce corn prices by 34 cents per bushel and wipe out over $5 billion in farm revenue. The Corn Refiners Association commissioned this research. CRA President and CEO John Bode said HFCS has been an important food ingredient for nearly 50 years. “It is a lower-cost sweetener. It is an alternative to sugar. America doesn’t produce enough sugar to meet its needs and so it is a nutritionally equivalent option.” Some of the leaders of the Make America Healthy Again effort have criticized High Fructose Corn Syrup. However, Bode said Health and Human Services Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr. has downplayed those concerns since taking office.
