South Dakota farmers had 4.1 days suitable for fieldwork last week, according to USDA’s latest crop progress report. Corn planting reached 85 percent, well ahead of last year and the five-year average, with 50 percent of the crop now emerged. Soybeans were 71 percent planted and 23 percent emerged. Spring wheat emergence reached 85 percent, and oats were 97 percent planted with 83 percent emerged. Sorghum planting hit 35 percent and sunflowers were 7 percent planted. Pasture and range conditions remain mixed, with 26 percent rated poor or very poor.
