House Speaker Mike Johnson wants the budget reconciliation bill passed by Memorial Day. “I don’t know that’s going to be the case or not, but there is a desire to get something done as quickly as possible,” said Jim Callan, CEO, James Callan Associates. “If some of the bigger parts, like crop insurance and reference prices, are taken care of, it may take some of the steam out of the farm bill, but there are other things in there that are important, too. Policy changes like updates to base acres, livestock biosecurity programs, and research are also very important.”
