The USDA has suspended all live cattle, horse, and bison imports at southern U.S. border ports due to the rapid northward spread of the New World Screwworm in Mexico. The pest has now been found as far north as roughly 700 miles from the U.S. border. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins says this suspension is necessary to protect the livestock industry and national food supply. The USDA and Mexico remain in close communication, and the suspension will be reviewed monthly based on containment progress. Livestock already in holding will be processed with inspections and treatments as planned.
