Ahead of the new wheat marketing year, which begins June 1, BNSF Railway and Union Pacific Railroad announced rail tariff rate changes for hard red winter wheat. USDA’s Grain Transportation Report said BNSF will reduce both the domestic and export tariff rates by more than $500. That is the largest decline since 2010 and the first time since December 2016 the BNSF tariff rates will be less than $4,000 per rail car. UP tariff rates will rise by $100 per car for domestic wheat shipments while the shipments to the Texas Gulf export terminals will be reduced by $400 per car.
