Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley remains cautious about the impact of President Trump’s expected tariffs on the agriculture sector. “We’ll wait and see how these tariff negotiations play out,” said Grassley. “You’ve heard me say several times about being a free and fair trader, if President Trump is successful in reducing tariffs by putting tariffs on and forcing negotiations and getting tariffs down overall, I’m going to say, Amen! If he’s unsuccessful, I’ll say, I told you so.” However, Grassley has introduced a bill that would require congressional approval for any new tariffs. Grassley said the Constitution gives Congress authority over trade issues and abandoned that power over time.
