South Dakota Farm Bureau members traveled to Washington, D.C., for their annual fly-in, meeting with policy experts and government officials. President Scott VanderWal said the delegation received updates from American Farm Bureau lobbyists before discussing trade issues with Mexican and Canadian embassies representatives. “We met also with some folks from the Mexican embassy, and they talked about the trade issues that are going on, talked a little bit about the GMO-corn dispute,” VanderWal said. Tariffs were a key topic of discussion. VanderWal said many members support the administration’s approach. “Most of the people that I talk to that are members are saying, ‘Let’s let him do his thing. He’s got a way of getting what he wants,” he said. “We don’t necessarily agree that tariffs is the way to start, but that’s not the way he negotiates.”
