The National Potato Council has recognized Gregg Halverson of Grand Forks as its 2025 Potato Person of the Year. Halverson is president and board chairman of Black Gold Farms. “Being recognized isn’t as much a personal recognition as it is a recognition for our whole team, our whole family, and really the whole industry,” Halverson told RRFN. Halvorsen was in Washington, D.C. for the National Potato Council meeting and spent time on Capitol Hill to lobby for issues like the farm bill. “Also, immigration is really important. We need to figure out the whole immigration thing. We use a lot of H2A labor and sometimes it can be a pretty clumsy system, we need to refine that.”
