Placements of cattle into feedlots last month were lower than expected. According to the monthly report, placements rose 1.7 percent. The pre-report estimate was for a nearly four percent increase. Marketings were lower than expected, up 1.4 percent from a year ago. The cattle inventory declined by a fraction of one percent, which was in line with trade expectations.
