President Donald Trump’s America First agenda may be seen as isolationist, but, geopolitical specialist Jacob Shapiro disagrees. “I think he’s going to be more imperialist,” said Shapiro. “The early returns on the Trump presidency is he’s using discreet levers of economic, political and even military influence and he’s having some success.” Shapiro, who kicked off the Northern Corn and Soybean Expo, said this is a time for farmers to be optimistic. “I see a lot of change and volatility, which to me translates into a lot of opportunity so if you’re thinking about expansion, expand; if you’re thinking about new technology, do that investment now; if you’re thinking succession, now is the time to do that.” For the next few years, Shapiro encouraged the audience to think like an entrepreneur first and a farmer second.
