Three environmental groups are suing the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and the Minnesota Department of Agriculture. The Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy, Minnesota Well Owners Organization, and Minnesota Trout Unlimited claim that state regulations do not protect public health and natural resources from nitrate pollution. The Karst region in southeastern Minnesota and the Central Sands region in central Minnesota were cited as particularly vulnerable to groundwater issues. The lawsuit contends the state rules governing feedlots and commercial fertilizer are inadequate.
