Farm organizations need to have a relationship with lawmakers to advance their policy priorities. South Dakota Farm Bureau Vice President Reid Jensen says that happens easily in his state. “For South Dakota, that’s pretty unique,” related Jensen. “We know John Thune, Mike Rounds and Dusty Johnson on a first-name basis so we can call them up anytime and let them know we have an issue. Some of the bigger states can’t do that, they need to cultivate that relationship more than we do.”
