The South Dakota Farm Bureau is reviving an issue that has been widely debated at past Farm Bureau meetings. Jeff Gatzke, a delegate for South Dakota, will advocate for mandatory country-of-origin labeling. “Our delegates want that Mandatory COOL, but we also acknowledge that Mandatory COOL will bring on electronic ID,” said Gatzke. “We feel we can bring those two together.” Electronic identification is not popular in South Dakota, but it has support from the American Farm Bureau and would be an appropriate compromise to secure M-COOL.
