South Dakota State Veterinarian, Dr. Beth Thompson, addressed the 56th Annual South Dakota Pork Congress in Sioux Falls on Wednesday. Thompson said she is confident the industry will be ready if and when African Swine Fever happens. “We have an excellent lab system across the United States and we have a lot of different avenues that we check on an hourly, daily, weekly basis for things like African Swine Fever,” said Thompson. “I would tell the pork producers make sure that you’re keeping in contact with your state organizations, with your veterinarian, and continue to communicate if you see something going on with your own animals.”
