Once the Northern Midwest/Northern Plains pushes past the surge of cold weather and the jet stream shifts in the spring, World Weather Incorporated Senior Agricultural Meteorologist Drew Lerner sees the potential for a wetter-bias. “We do see some potential for returning dryness later in the summer, especially in the Upper Mississippi River Basin and maybe the Red River Basin. I don’t know that it’s gonna be terribly negative though.” Regarding the threat of drought, Lerner believes there will be sufficient rainfall this spring to eliminate much of the moisture deficit. “I don’t think it’s going to completely go away, but we’ll have moisture to plant with.”
