John Deere unveiled its first fully autonomous tractor at the CES show in Las Vegas three years ago. “I’m thrilled to say that these tractors are already being used by farmers to prepare the soil for seeds to be planted next year,” said Jahmy Hindman, who is Deere’s chief technology officer. “That was a giant leap forward three years ago and today we’re going to take another giant leap forward in John Deere’s autonomy journey.” John Deere unveiled its second-generation autonomy kit that includes advanced computer vision and artificial intelligence. By bringing autonomy to tillage and other fieldwork, Hindman said it is one solution to the current labor shortage. In addition to new equipment, John Deere has kits to retrofit existing tractors.
