While Argentina has been dry, much of Brazil has seen nearly ideal moisture conditions. However, Commodity Weather Group meteorologist Joel Widenor is seeing more dryness in southern Brazil. “It had a pretty good season so far in Rio Grande do Sul, but it does look like we’re going to be drying out enough there over the next couple of weeks to see some stress developing for them,” said Widenor. “Areas from far southern Brazil into Uraguay, Southern Paraguay, central and northeast Argentina, that’s kind of the region that seems to be most at risk as we move through January.”
