In February, a federal court in Arizona vacated the registration of dicamba products, overturning a 2020 EPA reapproval of the herbicides. The loss of this crop protection tool is the #9 story for the Red River Farm Network in 2024. Bob Worth, who was the president of the Minnesota Soybean Growers Association at the time, said the dicamba ruling couldn’t have come at a worse time. “What a game-changer,” said Worth. “This is really a bad time of the year to be having a ruling come out like this; all the farmers have purchased their seed and all their chemicals for next year and dicamba was a big part of that.” BASF, Bayer and Syngenta all reapplied for registration for over-the-top use of dicamba, but approval is unlikely for the 2025 growing season.
